I thought the sequels were very cool aesthetically (ep 9 not so much) and very lame narratively (9 much). The casino planet in ep 8 was some of the worst scenes I’ve seen in recent years, while the lightspeed kamikaze was some of the best.
Overall I think aping the original trilogy was the sequel trilogy’s biggest problem. I really didnt like it in ep 8 where people said it was cleverly done because it was in reverse. I think yeso nailed it with this:
yeso there’s just so much dead weight on these films it’s out of control.
I think they took they just took the easiest route to make financially successful and enjoyable movies with one of the most popular franchise in the world.
My best memory of seeing all these movies in my local theatre (other than lightspeed kamikaze) was seeing a spaceship blow up with chewbacca inside and laughing when I thought I saw his limp corpse fall onto the sand. But alas, it didnt happen as I saw he survived that explosion because ???
