◉◉maru I don’t understand, where is Beat Takeshi in this collage?
treefroggy I don’t think it’s especially weird or elitist to admit you prefer old games; they aren’t just old, there are tangible differences in aesthetics, design philosophies, and production circumstances that make them meaningfully different experiences from the vast majority of modern games. I’m guessing most people on Insert Credit Dot Com feel the same way, to one degree or another. That said, I can point to very specific things I think TotK does worse than the Koizumi-era games (NPCs, for example) so my nitpicks with it as a game I’d like to love are a little more concrete than just finding it too modern. I’m mildly curious about FF16 but much of what it’s doing or what I expect it to do just seems miles apart from what I want out of a JRPG. DMC-lite combat + 100 hours of sidequests is just not a smooth sell to me.
On the whole tbh I think the fact that Nintendo is down to showcasing B-list remakes, ports, spinoffs and freemium garbage shortly after release of one of the biggest blockbusters in the Switch’s lifespan is compelling evidence that Switch 2 is coming in ‘24.
Oh also I am amused/puzzled by their willingness to remaster both Pikmins but only the worse, handheld Luigi’s Mansion.
