It’s hard for me as Nintendo make the games I like to play on the console that suits me the most. I have to do some feeble mental gymnastics to justify it to myself. They’ve got me through some rough times over the past 5 years or so. I just wish they’d cool their boots over all this litigation. It just seems, like many things in the corporate world, totally unnecessary and cruel.

There is now a monsters thread but I feel like this news doesn’t really fit the vibe of that discussion. Pokémon (the company) is having their World Championships in Yokohama this week and they had a 35 minutes show to talk about it and some updates of their existing games. I’ll skip to the main bits instead.

◉◉maru Kinda surprised that there’s pretty much nothing in the works for them? Lots of mobile game fluff and a few crumbs about the already-announced Scarlet/Violet DLC, but no mystery dungeon/pokken/other random spinoff and no gen 5 remakes and no pseudo-mainline stuff like Legends or Let’s Go. I’m not an expert on this sorta stuff but this feels like it’s gotta be one of the stronger signs that the Switch’s time is up, yea?

I’m looking forward to trying out TCG, I need a no-shame rewind for the dumb tenuous mistakes I’ll make in the early game until I get the ropes as well as flexibility to adjust my decks using save states.

This is more of a Monster thread observation - sorta want to know how much of Pokemon TCG crosses over with also Hudson developed Robopon.

I had a lot of fun with pokemon trading card game as a kid, but I only played it through an emulator and discovered that if you hold down the fast forward button you can play it like a slot machine where you can just set up a strong deck and gamble, either potentially get big payouts or lose a lot. It definitely entertained me for a couple days as an auto-battler.

I saw people comparing the red Switch to the red Wii and I just want to say that’s off base. The red Wii was kinda cool and had a mystique around it. A Canadian mystique.

I’ll skim through the direct later for any gameplay and I am a bit excited about the game. I’m currently playing Mario 3. Its still a great game with fantastic level design and a lot of fun ideas. If this game can capture some of that, I’m in. Nintendo makes games for everyone, and when they do it right few others are at that level.
