That saturn interview is interesting indeed - especially knowing there was a consideration/option to base the console on the model 1. This is more or less what I always said would’ve “saved” the Saturn, but we would’ve wound up with a very different console. It’s an incredibly “big japanese company” thing to think that you can’t embrace 3D because it would cause trouble for the way you’ve always been doing things, but I also sure do understand not wanting to teach 1,000 employees math.
I also wonder how well a system based on the model 1 would’ve done - I supposed they would’ve increased its capability but when you look at M1 games (virtua fighter, virtua racing) there’s not much texture work. I wonder how they would’ve modified it.
Anyway here’s the youtube version of the koshiro piece above, since I super extremely liked it. It has a second version with some different instruments.
Usually I’m not into arranged versions of video game music but this just cleans everything up and makes it feel like a proper club version. Something about Koshiro’s music lends itself well to arrangements where you just clean things or add layers - the PC Engine version of Ys is a good example of the latter.
