Oh I finished it all right.* I’d mostly forgotten what Darcy’s deal was and was consequently surprised when it explained his behavior. I agree with your original comment about the slowed down pace being to its benefit (almost like it was originally a book…) and looking like a well-washed shirt. Extremely and effluently pleasant. Find myself wishing I had a book of old 18th c. dances for piano in case having some of those things memorized should ever come in handy (it won’t). I’ll eventually watch the Knightley movie again and compare.
In the weeks after watching it I went to Savers a few times and kept seeing different P&P95 VHS box sets people were evidently buying
Mr Collins was still terrible later but in a way I found weirdly endearing (when he is Charlotte’s useful idiot instead of a threat to Lizzie’s future). Still hear him say “dearest cousin” or “cousin Elizabeth” in my head sometimes.
*but in fact on the strength of those first two episodes I did something I haven’t done in long time…

Which turned out being a great idea, there are some fun bonus features in this set. One is about the remastering process and shows just how much better the rescanned film looks compared to SD scans; another features the screenwriter discussing the writing process. In both cases I was amused at the presentation/interview style, which followed the apparent ethos of “put the person in front of the camera and let them talk, no editing required.” Guys all going “Erm……………………………………………………………………………………………….. well……………………………….. you see.”
The Wikipedia page has some pretty weird stuff in the home release category
