exodus can I just say here that that new Kirby looks very me. Can’t wait to play it co-op with my son. I think it’s going to be a fun, chilled old time. Also, I bought Chicory on the Switch today because of the podcast and played a little F.I.S.T. as I’d totally forgotten it was my game library pile, somehow… 🤷🏻‍♂️

I enjoyed this list episode more than most, and I like the end result - it’s also pretty fun for me personally that my choices are relatively evenly distributed through the list. I hope you all enjoy listening to it!!! at the very least we did not come up with a Gamespot list (no offense meant to Gamespot).

exodus for sure! i was in no way intending to criticize the list, or the episode. sorry if it came across that way. i was just surprised those two games ranked above many of the ones that were ranked lower. i intend to check out several of the games on the list based on the show’s recommendation, and thank you for putting together this episode.

whatsarobot it’s okay to criticize the list even! I didn’t take it personally, it’s just game opinions after all. I was just letting you know that I personally thought it was a relatively solid year for games, and given my criteria I probably would’ve put SMT V at #2 even in a year with a bunch of stuff I liked more, just because there was a new SMT and I want that to keep going.

yeso yeah, it regularly dips into the mid-teens price-wise, especially on console. if you’ve got a next gen one I’d say play it there! Otherwise wait for it to drop on steam.

Look at those juicy hours, man.
I was very much interested into Fuga and FIST. Those two were great games, but one was overlooked to me and I didn’t know it was released until much later, while the latter left me half convinced, half unconvinced and I didn’t know what to do. It’s going to be tough to play those games since 2022 seems to be coming strong for games (we’ll talk next year about that). but hey, glad that several of the games that piqued my attention have been way up the list.

also, heartened to hear mention of 6/10 games. Have been thinking about them and wondering if they might actually be better than 7/10 games.

Might be an idea for a short ranking segment or a lightning round: top ten #/10 game types

yeso we’ve been toying with the idea of the platonic 7/10 episode. I think for me a “solid 6/10” is a game that’s otherwise a 7/10 but doesn’t have much staying power or doesn’t get its hooks in you, which is how I’d describe cruis’n blast.

I might have to play Lost Judgment because it is the ONLY way you can play the fantastic Sci Fi bike game Motor Raid, unless you can somehow find a cab

@captain the demo is not good! it totally makes the game seem like it’s for actual babies, when in the very next level you’re like whoa I can just walk on top of everything…!?

I played that demo and unsurprisingly didn’t enjoy it. Glad to hear it explained like that

Good list, good episode. Good times.

I’m inspired to try a few of these where I otherwise previously was not, so that’s nice.
For anyone that hasn’t tried it, Loop Hero has a free demo on steam and your progress/save will transfer to the full game if you buy it after playing the demo. That’s how I got in to it! I had a grand old time loopin’ in that game, I can recommend at least checking out the demo.

rejj Loop Hero is good! I got self conscious recommending a game everybody loved! I guess that’s a pretty weird thing to feel, ha ha.

exodus I sincerely was really interested in (I think) this game before it came out, but then there was the game Raging Loop. Then I started seeing ads for Deathloop. So my brain just kind of split into pieces wrt which of these games I actually wanted to play. I’m genuinely interested in ~~Raging Death~~ Loop Hero now.

Also had somewhat dismissed Fuga, but Tim’s endorsement has also made me reconsider.

Lotta weird stuff on this list! I believe I only played 2 games that came out this year, ScourgeBringer and Super Magbot, each of which I was different levels of disappointed by/satisfied with. I’m glad to hear about a bunch of stuff that I had either not heard of or not considered that seriously.

Really appreciated the conversation about the pixel art work on the FF remasters. I saw a tweet going around highlighting some new modern pixel art game, and I just feel like those don’t appeal to me much anymore for the exact reasons the panel described.

Good stuff. Hearing a GOTY show featuring games I’ve never heard of is very cool and exactly why I listen.
