‘Fire’
(I chortled at the post-boss cutscene stopping only to initiate a ‘free roam’ area with the interactable party saying things like “guess you should talk to this new NPC”, i.e. continue the cutscene.)
the most annoyingly aggressive enemies in the game
They aren’t per se aggro but my personal bane is Tonberries. They have (on Hard at least?) several different one-shots and in general demand tedious play— moreso with the poor ol’ PS4 dropping frames, because I can only attack hit-and-away or during knockdowns or the knife is too fast to dodge; need to remain by a corner because Everybody’s Grudge cannot be fully blocked / evaded / soul guarded; the silence and paralyze drag the fight on; etc.
That’s a rare exception: for the most part I’ve had a smooth experience on Hard, I usually clear checkpoint to checkpoint in 1-2 tries, bosses in 4-5 and I could play more safely but I like to push myself to go fast and aggressive with soulguarding and job cancelling. I’ve never had to grind except very briefly at level one— and I was still learning the game systems, so that might have been a “me problem”. I’m constantly changing jobs and builds so it’s not as if I’m relying on any single tactic.
I haven’t looked at other difficulties but it seems like impressive balancing! The game has the Diablo system: you get better loot on higher difficulties (and I hear there is a post-game “Inferno”1 equivalent) so I wonder to what extent the practical level of challenge is constant and a lower difficulty only really changes kill times? For me consistently, normal enemies can be staggered with 1-2 uses of R2 ability, tankier ones 2-3, and enemies with gimmicked damage resistances (Flans) take 4 if you brute force it.
(Perhaps some job has it (Ninja?) but many of my deaths are from Nioh muscle memory expecting parry-on-dodge . . .)
Wishing the game had a sense/scan/libra ability or a bestiary.
For sure. connrrr I like the mage jobs but with six+ possible elemental affinities and this MP system it’s annoying to waste casts. Hell, I’d take it’s weak to ice and fire both! but the party here only barks if you hit the weak point.
1 - I wanted to check if I had that name right and apparently Inferno was removed from Diablo 3 at some point??
