This was a great little change of format - I really dug the non sequiters and general ‘note-to-self’ thoughts from Brandon and Liz.

Brandon’s anecdote about the BBC asking him to be in touch if he planned to be involved in anything else that was internationally newsworthy gave me a good laugh.

the fuck shirt story reminded me of a time i was interviewing with midway, and, while answering some kind of technical question, i absent-mindedly said i don’t give a fuck about something, and as soon as it left my mouth it ruined my brain for the rest of the interview. it turned out fine though, i guess, because midway died not too long after.

Off the back of the Fuck NFTs anecdote I went into my own office yesterday wearing mine thinking that there would only be a couple of really chill colleagues in that day. Anyway, I walked out of a side room from a video meeting with my boss back into our open plan office and in the meantime the most senior person in our region, who I hadn’t seen since before the pandemic, had arrived.

Luckily he is also very chill, and would also agree with the sentiment, but for a full second that lasted an eternity I felt like I’d diarrhoead enough for it to be pouring out my shoes.

I really enjoyed this episode too, it felt like listening to found audio logs from a walking simulator that tie the strings of the story together in a pretty bow.

PS. Is the “bye forever” a reference to something specific that I’m too much of a late-to-the-Insert-Credit-party-person to understand? Or is it just an Insert Credit-y thing to say?

Like if it was set in 2022, you’d slowly uncover a conspiracy behind the NFT and crypto boots or something like that by listening to audio logs of a previous GDC while walking around and attending talks at the current GDC.

Now that I think about it, I think there’s a non zero possibility that if E3 never come’s back, in like 10 years someone is going to make a nostalgia based walking simulator about their experience at E3 200X

Shaneus someone at some point (maybe on the podcast, maybe not) asked if there’s anything I do to intentionally annoy my partner and I said not really - but then I remembered that “bye forever” is something I say to her when she goes to sleep and she does not like it (she’s used to it now). So basically it’s something I like to use specifically when I’m going to see you again extremely soon.

But you know what, I think I want a proper E3/GDC walking simulator. You get to roleplay as different people. As someone from the VGHF, you need to collect as many flyers as possible. As Brandon, dodge all the crypto-bros. Tim? Drink as many energy drinks as possible, as close to the end of the expo as possible. I’m sure someone more embedded in Insert Credit lore could come up with many others.

And at the end, you all meet up and share your stories in a cute little cutscene a la SF2 or even Golden Axe:

I truly appreciate Tyriq’s pizza design breakdown. As an Italian(ayy) born and raised in Staten Island, New York , I know my way around a good pizza pie. As such I love that any time a game designer experiences something poorly designed, apt analyses and theoretical redesigns are sure to follow.

I’m having pretty major surgery towards the end of the month, and am going on planned long term sick leave for about four or five months. Brandon has subconsciously invaded my vernacular because I’m now signing all of my emails off with “bye forever” in the lead up to my temporary departure.

It’s made even more awkward because there are a lot of people that I work with that I have yet to even meet thanks to the pandemic.

rejj Thanks. It’s all planned, and I’m used to having surgery so I’m not too worried about it. I’m more worried that I’ll have to take some medicine that puts me at more risk if I were to get covid again, and attitudes to that seem to be depressingly relaxed now. Hooray.
