2501 I tried TSA and found the opening levels too boring to stick with it, so I’m surprised to see these glowing appraisals and genuinely curious to hear why I should give it another chance.
I think it’s definitely not a great game, and it’s definitely not for everyone, but speaking for myself, it had enough faint glimmers of the kind of strangeness Suda used to be known for, particularly the ending. It’s also got an interesting aesthetic and music (to me, especially the weirdly haunting music that plays in the main stages). But things like the text adventure segments and the pretty bland gameplay are definitely not things everyone’s going to enjoy.
I am right there with you in thinking that Suda and Grasshopper have lost a lot of their shine, but I’m also torn. I wanted them to move forward and create and explore more interesting stuff, but what they’ve made has been less and less interesting to me over time. I think it’s probably as much me and what I want out of a game that’s doing that, because a whole bunch of folks on the internet seem to have loved NMH3!
