tokucowboy Not that it makes it better, but the “misidentification” is an extension of an imageboard meme where people post scandalous or shocking stories with “identifying photos” of a popular meta-ironic edgy comedian (usually Sam Hyde, the Million Dollar Extreme guy; Kojima is another imageboard meme all-star). So a French far-right “journalist” literally saw an ironic 4chan meme and, not picking up on the irony, reported it as fact.

Did anyone here by chance bac–I dunno why I’m pretending this isn’t practically a given, here. To anyone out there who are definitely out there who backed Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, how is it goin’? What’s your perception of how the game is shaping up so far, and how solid do you think a 2023 release is?

The crowdfunding campaign happened at the wrong time for me to put down even a modest little bit of cash on it, otherwise I would have.

…Fuck it, I might as well ask: does anybody actually know what the violence level in the N64 version of Resident Evil 2 does? I understand the general idea, but there’s surprisingly little information on what that means in practice (do the zombies explode just a little bit less blood each level down, or is there something else going on there?).

Damn, can Activision-Blizzard do anything but fuck up and abuse their workers anymore? This is their only good game¹ lol

I have played Heroes of the Storm with a group of friends every Sunday (and sometimes more frequently) since technical alpha and I’m pretty sad. I have been playing Sunday Night Heroes with these people for 7 years. It is A Good Game and brought many many design innovations to the MOBA genre. They aren’t taking it away from us (yet) but the player base will wane.

Hearthstone is also Good. It’s had ups and downs but is a solid game too and also innovated in the space.

Blizz/Actv. is in trouble. They are no longer the studio they used to be and their games (maybe with the exception of, or especially specifically WoW) are not what they used to be.

It’s still really funny to me that Blizzard is the reason MOBAs exist, yet two other major games capitalized on it more effectively than they did, and then when they actually made a MOBA in Classic Blizzard style (in the sense that it was a competent application of an existing genre in a way that captured a lot of what made the genre good), but they had already been shoved out of the genre.

This looks a tad generic but I’m curious enough to want to know who’s on the development team beyond the art/music names they’re promoting (Isamu Kamikokuryo, Ramin Djawadi, etc.). Lancarse seems to have a pretty solid history with the early Etrian Odyssey games, Strange Journey and El Shaddai, although it seems like they’re more a dev support studio so I’m interested to see who on the SquEnix side is involved.

Like I know the Tim school of thought is to laugh off people who dismiss things as “generic” but as a person who does not zip through games in the year 2022 I really need something to sell me on any given 60+ hour RPG beyond “solid genre exemplar with slight formal innovations”. There’s gotta be some really cool mechanical, aesthetic and/or narrative concept there to hook me if a game looks and sounds from a distance like a thousand other things in its genre, even if I like that genre. Lately SquEnix seems to be specialized in putting out “classical”, “nostalgic” kinda games that are far more vaguely defined and lacking in identity or vision than any of their actual classics despite bursting with competency.
