DaveedNoo my zone out game was Skyrim cause you can just run in any direction and find a quest and do it.
I didn’t think to mention this as the question’s prompt, since I’m not sure how much of an “action game” this will qualify as, but I used to do a very similar thing in Minecraft. I’d create a new world, turn off the monsters, choose a direction to walk in and just go. It was really relaxing! Especially when you load up a shader to make the game more pretty, there’s some really impressive randomized world generation in that game when you’re looking for it. Playing the game like this, with no particular objective in mind besides sight-seeing, essentially, made me really appreciate the environments that game comes up with. The fields of flowers and imposing mountains can be surprisingly beautiful when they’re the thing you’re actively paying attention to, as opposed to them being a backdrop to the regular mining, crafting, etc. As far as games to zone out to or, as you put it, “slam buttons and not die,” using Minecraft as a Walking Outside Simulator was really chill
