Gaagaagiins I think I agree, though I will say the name was a better fit for the look/feel/voice of the old site, at least to me. There’s something uncanny and void-like about the way the words “insert credit” blink ever-presently on an arcade game screen like a voice from another world (which, interestingly, now that I think about it, they sort of are? The words are a weird linking point between us and the game…to us, a constant on-screen reminder that none of this is real, and to the beings within the game, it’s an intruder from outside). Not saying the site was created with any of that in mind, but I’d just say I got a similar vibe out of the articles on Insert Credit back when it was primarily a site about essays and articles. I think the most “insert credit”-like element of the old Insert Credit was the banner with randomized, cryptic video game sayings on it every time you went to a different page. I really miss that.
Anyway, maybe the only connection is simply the mysterious beauty of white text on black background on the internet (which is probably part of the reason I like looking at this forum so much).
Lastly, I’ll just note something that’s never occurred to me before. “Insert credit” is a phrase/mechanic almost entirely related to arcade games, and they don’t talk about arcades or arcade games on the show very much at all.
