I have no idea what “the blog post” or “that site” is, I’m speaking from my observation from playing the English version and then seeing Japanese let’s plays, which I noted at the time in the co-op thread. In general I grow hesitant to discuss Souls here exactly because my opinions keep being conflated with “the Souls community” that I don’t participate in or have an interest in discussing / defending.
The key difference is that in the English version, Ranni ushers in and welcomes the beginning of the “cold night”. In Japanese, she says the opposite, that she is ending the “cold night”.
The English has a convoluted, despairing tone; the Japanese blunt and optimistic. Ranni’s intention is that she will hold back the Outer Gods (the cold night of space and ineffable eldritch influence) and in so doing create something like the real world, where you can have faith in gods but you never actually see them. Because of its vague wording, it’s hard to parse that from the English.
