At my old apartment we had a raised bed planter in the driveway/in front of the garage. We grew tomatoes, herbs, peppers, and a few other things. It wasn’t massively successful but we got some stuff going. When we moved out, I took all the nice dirt and spread it around the back area and also filled the hole in the very small (a semicircle that’s 12″ at its widest) dirt patch by the spigot that you can just barely see there. The hole was made when we dug out the rose bush we had there. Anyway - clearly a tomato seed from our prior harvests planted itself. When I first visited the old apartment a few months ago they had a small tomato plant going and they asked if we had planted it, which is when I put together that it just came from our dirt.
Anyway, I went back there this past weekend and this is what I saw. The tomato plant had just gone bonkers. They didn’t water it or take care of it or anything. It just grew like a dang bandit from a seed that came out of some dirt we tossed in there. It rules IMO.
(according to one neighbor friend who lives there still they had the vines all along the ground and weren’t dealing with it at all until she badgered them to put some stakes in, which I guess they sorta did. Anyway they moved out now! I wonder what’ll happen there. They moved out because of a gas leak that is definitely there, but which the handyman the landlord uses continues to say is not there, and so the landlord will not fix. The leak was there all the 15 years I was living there, I just patched it up so it mostly stayed contained to under the house lol. It’s possible they used the heat more than I did which caused the patch to erode. I did the patch because the handyman said there was no leak. He also didn’t notice the high pitched whine he had introduced which was happening 24/7. Man that guy sucked. At one point he also accused me of removing a plate from the heating system that would “cause us to die in 24 hours.” but uhhh he removed it!! Not me! He did it!! And then blamed me for it! Anyhoo good for the new tenants for not wanting to inhale gas all day.)
