The couple of mentions Baten Kaitos has gotten here made me listen to it - it rules! I’ve only played the game a little, and would like to revisit it, and now I feel even more motivated to do so! The wide range of sounds still feel of-a-piece with each other. Like, I can tell they come from the same game. And dang, those track titles.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

I actually almost listed Omikron because it includes some of my personal favorite Bowie tracks! Hours… was the first Bowie album I ever owned and I grew really attached to those cheesy songs well before I wised up and cracked into some of his more…uh…canonically impressive music. I’ve never really listened to the non-Hours… tracks from this game, though. This fight theme is some peak late 90s unhinged stuff…actually reminds me a lot of some of David Lynch’s music.

I don’t think I need to edit my form, because I specified in my list that I wanted Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition. What I neglected to mention in that comment, though, was that it doesn’t just have TWO great soundtracks, it has THREE.

The Online Edition exclusive bangers contain some of my favorite versions of any of these songs, with the highlights being Elena’s theme and Urien’s absolutely vicious theme.

Turn the volume all the way up in your car on that second one.

Hollow Knight is a slight technicality because the sound design is one of my favorites and the soundtrack is also great. Also, I think Transistor has the better music of Supergiant’s games that I’ve played, but Hades uses the music incredibly well with all the action.

Honorable mentions are AI: The Somnium Files, Dadish, and Celeste. I wanted to feel cool enough to put Streets of Rage 3 in there, but I’ve only cracked into it in the last couple years.

edit: Cannot F******N BELIEVE I forgot Cave Story, geez

Also, I feel that adding both og DOOM and DUSK to my list is a spiritual inclusion of DOOM ’16

I haven’t played this game since around the time it came out, and I forgot how cool some of this music is. Fi’s theme is so ephemeral, and I loved the trombone for Groose, especially as a budding score appreciator. I ended up getting the game version that came with the CD of eight live orchestra arrangements, which was cool. Unfortunate the only song from SS was The Ballad of the Goddess, which i think is pretty mid.

I was rather tempted to list almost everything Darren Korb has done for Supergiant. I rather like at least the Bastion, Transistor, and Hades soundtracks.

I made a snap decision and realised I’ve probably listened to Transistor more than the others on its own, so it got the nod
