exodus do you have any information about how tarzan dan became the guy? I assume he came from radio or something? He looks like a random dweeb you’d see at a baseball game saying “wadda bum!” more than a television hitmaker.

Yep! He was and still is a radio DJ. He hosted the first six seasons, but the show itself aired from 1991 to 2005.

◉◉maru I have twin nephews that aren’t quite three yet. They love Batman and I think it’s solely because of that opening. They’re not allowed to watch the movies yet, so I think it’s their only interaction with it. When they come over they usually ask me to put on Batman, they watch the opening in awe and then quickly scamper off to play with Hot Wheels.

That is all I really liked about the Batman Animated Series until I was around 12 and it was rerunning on Toonami after Outlaw Star.

Me and my girlfriend watched every episode of Season 2 together and I demanded like a 3 yr old that she sit through the opening credits each week we watched the new one. I let her skip once for the sixth episode to be nice lol

LoBFCanti huh, season 2 came out? I sure did not hear about it. The end of season 1 was so insulting to me that I said they’d have to do a hell of a lot to bring me back for another season. I wonder if they did.

Anyway I continue to like the superimposition in true detective, making woody harrelson look like a skello, etc

the video actually makes me kind of like the song, which otherwise I would not!

exodus This is my favorite single season of any show. I’ve never went back and rewatched it(that’s on reserve for when I need to queue up a good time) but just from the first viewing I feel like there’s so much there that I’ve missed. I remember feeling like there were strong ties to druidic stuff and Norse mythology(and probably other mythologies I’m too dumb or lazy to recognize) when I first watched it, that those I was watching it with didn’t recognize or thought I was reading too much into. I’m sure there’s all kinds of “Ohhh Duh!, Of course!” things I’d pick up on. I don’t know the term for it, but I appreciate the JRPG-style names referring to character attributes in the names Rustin Cole and Marty Hart. Unless of course, I’m reading too much into that as well. I forgot just how good this opener was, thanks.

I get it, I get it. Season 1’s end was a whole lot of “but how did…?” but I promise you they knocked Season 2 out of the park. It is much more focused (and two episodes shorter unfortunately). It started in February and ran 8 episodes. They tie a lot up nicely and where it leaves you is less absolutely baffling in a kind of bad way and much more emotionally engaging and shocking.

Around when I noticed internet access had become undeniably common, I went through a phase where I realized all kinds of people might just be on the internet and could be tracked down to speak to personally. One such person I made contact with, was the composer of this song— who sadly confirmed to me that it was composed at this length and there is no “full version”. :(

Syzygy wow, I never watched this show but I absolutely remember this opening theme! It really is quite good.

Herb I went back and re-watched it late last year and I tell you what: It’s real good! Then I thought I’d go and reappraise season 2 and see if it’s better than people say and wow! I hated it. Lol. I only watched one episode but it was very No Thanks.

KennyL Poirot is pretty fun! I’d say give it a go. I love this extremely Patrick Nagal-meets-art-deco approach they go for visually on the opening. The show itself does not have anything remotely like this vibe, but it’s still cool if you like mysteries and belgians.

@LoBFCanti I simply don’t believe they can pull it around for me. the religion vs atheism thing was already feeling stretched to its limits and now the atheists are gonna be the bad guys? and all the stuff about android humanity culminated in…. !?!?!? I think I’d better just leave it lol.

@LeFish I definitely saw dogtanian here and there, somehow. But not the family ness! It’s fun hearing someone try to do an american accent like this. Nearly there!

I watched this Poirot opening a ton on TV but never actually watched a single episode…..

Same for this version of PBS Mystery! intro.

KennyL As a connoisseur of twee British detective dramas from the 80s and 90s Poirot is right up there and rad as heck. There’s tonnes of episodes too - check it out.

For UK folks of a certain age these are SSS rank. I don’t think any of these would have been syndicated in the USA? I love the art style of all three cartoons and the Dogtanian one in particular is super charming and captures the actual show wonderfully.
