exodus Honestly? I didn’t finish it lol. BUT. There’s something about it. It’s got that Nanobreaker/Chaos Legion/10,000 Bullets type of heat on it, in that it’s pretty undercooked, pretty broken, but damn if it doesn’t have heart. I love that it plays out more like a horror game because I feel so woefully underequipped for every single encounter. I really love that it has a slightly non-standard control scheme. I love how stupid it is.
Also the situation surrounding it is so weird that I found it to be a strangely compelling curiosity piece. Square-Enix decided to put out a third person stealth shooter in the Front Mission universe, and hire Yoji Shinkawa for the key art, inviting Metal Gear comparisons abound.
Also it was directed by Toshifumi Nabeshima, who was a longtime From Software dude what directed and produced most of the Armored Core series as well as most of their best stuff (imo) like Shadow Tower: Abyss, the Echo Night trilogy, Chromehounds, Adventures of Cookie and Cream, etc. Also he wrote the script for Dark Souls II which, while not exactly a Brandon Sheffield Joint™ is extremely dear to my heart. I don’t think he was set up for success here. S-E seemed to have sent this game out to die half-baked and then immediately forgot about it so hard that it doesn’t even go on sale on the PS4 digital store lol. It seems to be forever locked at MSRP $59.99 USD just because no one is like, checking on it.
But hey, $11? It’s been $7 new for a long time so it’s already on its way to being unobtainable!
