treefroggy Dunkr Starting with the Play it Loud! series of Dot Matrix Gameboys, Nintendo’s colors for stuff has always been walkman inspired (game boy was originally a riff on walk man), sega game gear too. Before nintendo started copying apple colors almost verbatim. But what you said about Playstation is thought provoking, since the PSP was also likened to the walkman a lot. The Sega Mega Drive was also modeled after the original walkman in its design. WALKMAN was highly influential! Also, now that we’re getting into consumer electronics, I’d like to share the adorable SHARP QT series
kory treefroggy what a nostalgia blast, I had that exact 2 speaker model in red when I was a kid…I wonder if it’s still kicking around somewhere.
Geoff treefroggy the adorable SHARP QT series Mizucat is selling some Game Boy DMG shells painted in similar colors https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/882444049/metallic-spray-painted-gameboy-dmg
exodus Dunkr I was VERY excited to find an in-box SPORTS product in a thrift store for $5 once - bought it only to realize it was only an am/fm radio ;_; I think I gave it away (or nearly) to someone at a garage sale after that. possibly one of you all!
donrumata Lately I’ve been on a Vita kick again (thanks in no small part to the excellent GTA ports) and I’ve been aggressively stopping myself from buying the aqua blue Vita because I already own too many Vitas. That thing is gorgeous though. EDIT: Oh also the Hitbit MSXs are amazing.
kory donrumata The industrial design for those MSX variants is incredible! I wish there was a little bit of (or a lot of, frankly) that DNA in modern console designs (looking squarely at you, Sony). The Vita redesign was indeed beautiful…I was a little less successful in holding myself back from indulging though, for better or worse
connrrr Dunkr I was wracking my brain trying to find the one I had on google, and it turned out it wasn’t a Sony at all!! It was this weird thing that my grandma gave me after her trip to Australia (??): Also mdr is French for lol kory Even though I should be contented by my 3G Vita with PSVSD, that neon orange slim is right up my alley and I may one day have to grab one. Big-ol-dumbo That one looks especially great with the hanafuda plates:
Kimimi This Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time DSi arrived today: It was bought mostly as a practical replacement for my now rather battered plain white DSi but I do like the design (and Crystal Chronicles style in general) very much.
Syzygy Kimimi Can I ask if you got it on eBay or elsewhere? I am actually in the market for a new/like-new DSi and the global situation makes it harder to examine touchscreens in person.
kory antillese tangentially related to this, I recently realized that Zoom recognizes my HDMI capture device as a valid video source and demonstrated that I can, in fact, use my GB camera via a Super Game Boy via an Analogue Super NT as a teleconferencing camera. I have yet to put this knowledge to practical use, but I am not ruling out the possibility…
golok Jax last march right before that thing we’re still dealing with started popping off in the states i was at my local game shop and they had one of that metal slime 3ds consoles and i was so close to buying it and i’m still regretting it a year later. thinkin about grabbing one of the metal slime vitas off the internet at some point though, i love the slime on the dpad
exodus I unfortunately just rediscovered the Toys R Us Japanese Saturn and now I have to be sad I don’t own one. I mean it’s just got a sonic decal on it! But!!!!!!!!
tapevulture man i loved this thing. it remains THE way to play suikoden on PS1 fred durst confirms he has never used another controller to play suikoden on PS1
kory tapevulture ooh, I had that one—I specifically remember defiantly continuing to use it with my PS2 despite not having those dubious pressure sensitive buttons
Dunkr Dunkr It’s a bit rough as I’m trying Affinty Photo for the first time instead of Photoshop. Could be a fun 3d modelling project for someone.
kory Dunkr that’s amazing! I did a double take when I scrolled past because it looked so convincing. It reminds me of some of the work Dana Sibera has done on Twitter—lots of fantastic fantastical electronics.
exodus Dunkr yeahhhh I’d drive that! My only criticism is it’s not quite busy enough! Needs some words about high definition power and polygons and stuff on the lid maybe?
