Wait, it actually was the Tochō all along! The little rascal! After all, it would be remiss of a game located entirely in Shinjuku’s district to not feature one of its iconic buildings.
I could not see the Tochō via a quick playthrough last weekend so I captured these from a recent speedrun (see below). The rest of the game is not much of a looker, sadly, and it plays just as well.
Shinjuku no Ōkami began as a Capcom project, both as a follow-up to the successful GTA trilogy on PS2 (which Capcom published in Japan) and as an answer to the success of Ryū ga Gotoku in late 2005.
The development went awry, Capcom cancelled the game in 2007 and it belatedly released in 2009 via Spike, at a point in time when most of its potential audience had already moved to either PSP or PS3.
