kory I like this idea. I had taken a certain amount of sound design into account for my list, which isn’t really something you engage with outside of playing the game. The one game that I had considered that I wouldn’t give the music a perfect ten is Hollow Knight because the sound is primarily subtle but visceral when it counts. (I did knock it off when I remembered Cave Story). The only game I haven’t finished on my list is DUSK*, which I’ve played the first episode of and LOVE both the soundtrack and sounds of.

Four of my list overlapped with the game poll we did somewhat recently, which seems significant and maybe signifies a lack of rigor in my process for either but oh well.

I’d like to thank @Gaagaagiins for putting this together. I love these polls and games; it’s been great to help me keep in touch with the forum after getting a bit busier lately.

Apologies for the delay in getting further results available. I had two optical appointments on Friday that resulted in extremely dilated pupils / being unable to read text on screens properly, and I’ve been visiting my parents this weekend. Regarding the above post, I have tried to come up with a way of formatting / presenting multi-tiered pivot table data that won’t be 100% unreadable here on the forum. Here’s a look at country of origin and release platform, tallied by decade of release. It is a lot easer to read in a spreadsheeting tool that provides indentation and ruler lines to help show nesting and grouping, but I hope the bold and the vertical spacing can achieve a similar effect here.

I had to put it in its own post because I was running up against maximum length limits for a single post, and couldn’t fit any commentary along with it.

(I haven’t looked at what a mobile browser does to this, apologies if this ends up as just an incomprehensible jumble of text and numbers)

I think next it would be interesting to try and parse and split the comma delimited columns (country, platform, composer mainly) and find a way to regroup common values. eg, “Windows PC” and “Windows PC, Nintendo Switch” would count as 2 for “Windows PC” rather than being distinct entries.

Some big wall of text here but it’s mostly for additional context. This is a ranked list of individual teams or composers who have had the most number of games from their catalogue voted for in the poll. I’ve kept the minimum cited here as two different games as, frankly, the list of people with only one game voted for is both very long and dull save for a handful of exceptions who will appear in my next list. It would also take me forever to pull that info all together manually.

There are some very minor caveats to where there is an incomplete list of credits on Wikipedia, and depending on how you count certain people / teams (namely Falcom JDK and Zuntata) but I’ve done my best to be sensible here. I’ve also filled in some gaps that weren’t in the spreadsheet so there should be some marginally more accurate data.

Notable results from this list:

Despite coming third in the number of games voted for, Koji Kondo only has 8 votes for his 7 games. Similar results also appear for Falcom Sound Team JDK, Zuntata, and Michiru Yamane, who all have the same number of votes as the number of games that they were voted for (i.e. exactly 1 vote per game voted for).
Conversely, June Chikuma, Lena Raine, Kohta Takahashi, and Koji Nakagawa all qualify into this list from a single game.
If we were to remove all votes for Katamari Damacy, of the six team members involved in that game, only Asuka Sakai would qualify for this as they worked on Ridge Racer Type 4, which received 5 votes. This would also happen if the same was done for Earthbound votes.
Only five people in this list are non-Japanese: Darren Korb (who ranked highest with 8 votes), David Wise, Richard Jacques, Lena Raine, and Toby Fox.

…unless someone wants to make the argument that the Wii’s weather forecast app is somehow a videogame.

There was also Chrono Trigger: The Brink of Time as well as Wild Arms: Music the Best, which are cover albums of videogame soundtracks and not videogame soundtracks themselves. I chose not to count them as votes for the games they were associated with, not to discredit the idea of arranging videogame music, but out of respect for the process of adaptation. Plus, it would make our poll objectively incorrect, because we didn’t say that Perfect Selection: Dracula Battle I is the greatest videogame soundtracks of all time (thanks @JoJoestar, still absolutely reeling over how much this fucking rocks).

Love the recognition for non-JP/US contributions in the OP, what delightful photos

In answer to an earlier question, I have played/simmered the meat off the bones of every game on my list with the exception of Splinter Cell 3, of which I’ve played a grand total of maybe 5 minutes, and which to me is just an album by Amon Tobin. According to various Youtube uploads of the full soundtrack the album doesn’t even compose half its runtime. I ended up including it because it is a game soundtrack and I have listened to it a lot.

Feeling weird about not listing Chrono Trigger (for many (of my teen) years I would have said with certainty this was my favorite OST) nor Pathologic 2 (the most potent audiovisual experience I’ve had with a game in some time), but that’s what the next poll is for.
