Hahahaha off the top love Tim’s planetokio comment. Bet I’m not the only one here whose played it though. I like to admit the exact year I encounter games though. Planetokio I knew nothing about until I got my PSIO in 2019. That’s also when my bemanistyle creator irl friend told me about rhythm n face, lol. I probably found out about LSD dream emulator either from retro gamer magazine or online somewhere around 2010 and put it on my PSP! I had a dedicated see-thru green 500mb memory stick with LSD written on it, lol.
I would consider IC obscure,
While i was actively developing games in 2014, I began contacting @bankbank as a fan of their work, they mentioned the forum, saying to check it out and I didn’t.
I didn’t hear of it again until 2020 when I discovered Tim Rogers was a guy who’s stuff I’d been reading for longer than I’d realized, and as a Voice of Gaming™️ found it to reflect my views in a way nothing else was at the time. (Mainly in regards to FFVIIR)
About as early as I had my own internetted up PC in the early 00’s I was searching “obscure games”, because people were calling my favorite game, “earthbound”, obscure, lol. It is not anymore.
Nowadays I think it’s safe to say anything without a Wikipedia page in English is obscure, to Englishers.
I was going through the full famicom library in release order, and the ones that have red text were usually interesting and often ones I’d check out! I like mahjong, after all.
