Breath of the Wild was gorgeous on Switch already, it’s awe inspiring in 4K. (well I actually scaled it down to 1800p, which is one step down from 4K). Also seeing the game at a smooth 60fps is another thing entirely. At 1080p/1440p it’s pretty much locked at 60 with a few strikes here or there, and at 1800p it hovers around 55-60. Amazed at how well the game scales. The only game I’ve played through at 4k (or above 1080p really) is Demon’s Souls, so this is a new experience for me.

There’s also a lot of graphical tweaks & upgrades applied, like greater draw distance, and a community-created shader that is just like the original game but with some upgrades to lighting and shadows that stays true to the original.
Arriving at Rito village for the first time each playthrough always fills me with such emotion that I’m brought to tears both by the music and the architecture and breathtaking scenery.. It also seems like I always arrive exactly at sunset… This time however, since I’ve listened to this acoustic progressive jazz cover so many times in the past 5 years, I catch myself hearing the breakdowns and added movements from it while I’m playing the game, which is awesome… Like the part where it gets all minor-y…
I nailed planning out my playthroughs of this game! Once at launch, didn’t beat it, went halfway through once again a year later when my gf implored me to. Back then I was consciously thinking how I’d ravenously play it then, not complete it, and then one day a few years later when my van build is completed and I am settled, comfy, and ready, I will replay the game with my “perfect” setup…
I got a new mattress a couple days ago, so I’ve been really enjoying staying inside and gaming on my new mattress. Comfytown.

…and now, wow, it’s been 6 years since this game came out?? I’ve barely thought about it since then.
It’s an interesting time to be playing it also because there’s so much botw retrospective discussions happening in anticipation of TotK. I have no doubt it will be good. Most of the discussion I’ve heard has been pretty low level / making problems where there are none– typical of nintendo fanboys– but if I were to dip into that, I think we all hope they pull an elden ring and include “legacy dungeons”…
5-ish years was a great reset for me to feel like I’m getting the maximum return out of replaying this game in 1800p60. The coolest part IMHO is that after I finish the story segments, if/when I decide to bust shrines or whatever, I can convert the save back to my nintendo switch and play in portable mode!
It’s also my first time playing since “Hero’s Path” feature was added, and I absolutely love stuff like this. Can’t wait to do the DLC!
