This was my starter episode, but it is also a good starter if you are worried about the explicit content of the films they cover

I really enjoy this one — Here Be Monsters. Topics and presentation vary widely from personal stories, interviews, audio art projects, to general thought meandering. It has wonderful production and a pace and tone that makes it perfect for late at night projects or when I’m feeling spacey.

cool podcast called cool people who did cool stuff. it’s mostly about the history of various leftists movements or leftists things that happened or cool anarchists across history.
listening to this podcast feels very informative yet it remains very conversational and chill. it’s really good

I don’t often listen to podcasts, but since I mentioned J David Osborne and Kelby Losack in the book thread, I thought I’d share their podcast: Agitator.

Every week, they and a special guest discuss a Japanese movie, manga, or anime. They recently did Akira and Serial Experiments Lain. Their first few episodes were mostly about Takashi Miike’s movies.

I can also recommend Darknet Diaries for good stories from the world of infosec and Crypto Island for an investigative, slightly gonzo look at crypto that does not advocate for crypto.

Chopemon enthusiastic second on Three Bean Salad. it gets very Britishly silly at times, and when it hits, it’s borderline-brilliant. the musical interludes are inspired, and remind me of The Mighty Boosh. as a Canadian, i found their Canada episode both insightful and utterly bizarre.

started listening because Paul F. Tompkins recommended it on his podcast, Threedom, which also gets ludicrously funny at its best. it’s the lowbrow American version of Three Bean Salad.

EDIT: Benjamin Partridge is one of the hosts of Three Bean Salad, and his other podcast, Beef and Dairy Network Podcast, is the most straight-faced, conceptual, anti-comedy long-form work of fiction i’ve ever encountered. he’s doing something special with that one.

I haven’t talked about it on the forum, but just over a month ago I released the first game I’ve ever been the director and writer for. Surprisingly, it meant enough to someone for them to reach out and have me on their podcast for an interview about it. I’m going to continue not shilling my game on here, but if you wanted to listen to the podcast I think it was a pretty good conversation!

Three Bean Salad has become (to me) the funniest podcast there is. it strikes just the right balance between silly nonsense and brilliant iprov competence.

what podcast makes you laugh the most? i need some good laughs. i am aware of the Earwolf family of podcasts and have experienced mixed results.

I really like a silly trainwreck of a podcast called Dr. Gameshow in which the two hosts play listener submited games with live callers and more often than not the games are terrible and nonsensical. The dynamic between the two hosts is really what makes this show imo.
This podcast has been cancelled from 3 different networks (including Earwolf) because it doesn’t have enough listeners and in 2020 the format changed to a zoom call rather than recorded live with guests.

It’s a really weird show that can be hard to get into because they have a ton of back history which is often referenced. the fact that the show is so hard to get into is often a joke in the podcast.

If you are into listening to back catalogs I think the beginning of their run with their current network (maximun fun) is a good place to start.

This is actually the podcast that made me get into the car accident that i mentioned a while ago 穴

The Aunty Donna Podcast is the only other podcast I regulary listen too. I’d describe it as an improv comedy podcast, which leans heavily into the absurd. If you know Aunty Donna either through Youtube or Netflix, I’d say the podcast is their best work. I have no idea where I’d recommend starting. Maybe one of the End of Year Best Of episodes and then picking a episode from there.

The most recent episodes 321 - Finding Yeezus, 320 - Optimus Prime, 319 -Mr Hollywood have been pretty good, as was the three parter (from 312) A Fried Chicken Investigation.

As it’s Australian I feel like I should issue a LANGUAGE WARNING for the whole series. Probably not suitable around kids.

I have been meaning to listen to Three Bean Salad as I liked Mike Wozniak on Task Master.

whatsarobot try Gossipmongers. It was another British podcast hosted by comedians and until they destroyed it, was the best thing going.

The three hosts would read out funny stories and gossip sent in by listeners and would often having me L O L-ing.

At the end of the third season, the two male hosts decided that the female host was having too much success from the podcast and fired her. Without her, the podcast was dreadful and I think it died during/after the fourth season.

The first three are gold though!

Actually, just realised this will be difficult unless you use YouTube. The male hosts scrubbed the first three seasons from podcast services to remove the existence of the female host but you can find it all on YouTube.

穴 thanks! i like everything you’ve described here (except for the car accident). the concept itself sounds great, but that back history and co-host chemistry is always what makes a podcast succeed or fail. (case in point: Three Bean Podcast has become funnier to me with each new episode, because i better understand and feel more comfortable with the world the co-hosts have created.)

Oh and i don’t know if you are familiar with the show Joe Pera Talks with You but one of the co-hosts Jo Firestone wrote some episodes and played one of the main characters in it

穴 i am currently listening to the latest episode (97. Haunted Boxes) and am already lolling pretty non-stop. the bit about “how old people talk” got me.

i love how unenthusiastic Manolo sounds about everything.
