Okay, quick recap:
games I obliterated: Akumajou Dracula, Akumajou Dracula Super Famicom, Akumajou Dracula X68000, Akumajo Dracula X Chii no Rondo
games I played to the last boss but didn’t finish: Akumajou Densetsu, Vampire Killer
So now I’ve moved on to Akumajou Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight fan translation with de-dither patch applied. I already inverted the castle, got 100% before doing so. It’s been long enough since I played this that I don’t remember any of what happens, and just going off of knowledge I’ve gained from obliterating Dracula 4 or 5 times in previous games, I’m doing very well at finding every last secret crumbling wall and noticing when areas are refreshed versions from prior games. I would not have noticed for example that there’s a weird space that is like a crumbled version of one of the final rooms of Rondo of Blood leading up to Dracula.
I also picked up a game I purchased back when it was new for my 3DS, played for 5 minutes and set down forever. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. At the time I’d decided I didn’t want to tarnish my perspective of the Castlevania series and needed to play the game only after finishing more original games in the series first. It was also around the same time I had become completely jaded by the 3DS system. Here we are, around 7(?) years later. I’ve gotten to the castle in this game. Some of my opinion still hasn’t changed, it makes very poor use of the 3DS hardware, but it’s multiplatform so that’s not really fair. I’m not gonna buy it again just to play on PC or switch. It would be much better on a CRT but still it’s just another Inti Creates game, I’m not gonna be so harsh on it. I may attempt to finish it at some point. I do like some of the characters and the music is really good (no surprises there!).
