Are there any good, reputable resources for tracking which bands are full of or work with nazis?

I enjoy the metals but I sure would like to not fund nazis and murderers!

rejj it’s honestly kind of a tricky thing, most of the most egregious dirtbags are easy to spot. usually just checkin’ their metal-archives page and seeing what labels they’ve released stuff with and what other bands they’ve been in is how i figure it out. eventually you just spot certain labels/imagery and know right away. certain countries have bigger sketch scenes than others, russia/ukraine/finland are sort of NS hotspots, i don’t know if it’s just like, the same 15-20 dirtbags just being really prolific or if it’s something bigger than that however.

rejj While I agree with what @golok said, r/RABM has “Is X Band Sketch” threads, which has been helpful for me. Sometimes I don’t feel like scouring through metal-archives to find members, side projects, label mates, and liner notes looking for dogwhistles. This is, almost entirely, because I am much more interested and involved in hardcore, where nazi proliferation is summarily crushed by fists and feet.

You could also check out the bands on the “Overgrow to Overthrow” comp, whose proceeds go to BLM causes (might I suggest the Panopticon song “Flag Burner, Torch Bearer” which is the song that got me into metal), and “Riffs for Reproductive Justice”

Oh no.
I am only just now discovering that Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth is an Oath Keepers founder, and was arrested and about to give a plea deal related to the Jan 6th “having a normal morning on this normal day” day.

I suppose I am immediately retiring my Iced Earth tshirts. Such a shame. I quite like my Wacken 2010 one, where I got to see Matt Barlow’s last ever performance with the band.

Maybe it should have been obvious he was always like this? I suppose the imagery was there, but it is very easy to not see or notice it as a non-american. Album covers with flags and song about eagles just read as “typical American bluster” to a global audience, I suppose

yeso very ok for this thread in my view. really nasty guitar sounds. i enjoyed weed and suburbanite in particular. would enjoy seeing many of these bands in a small basement room

anyone up for sharing some merch. here are some of my favs:

i fell in love with this band after watching a video of one of their sets and the singer dramatically introduced the band as “we’re cult leader…we worship at the church of negativity.” the first time i saw them he was running the merch table and he asked me what i wanted and i went “uh yeah…can i get the one with the scythe.” after he handed me the shirt i drunkenly hugged him and told him that his lyrics meant a lot to me. im horrible. since then i’ve sought out shirts with scythes

i saw this vegan straightedge band in a YMCA last year. incredible. former members of CURSED and earth crisis. and improbably, a current member of FALL OUT BOY. respect

i wear this one a lot but i don’t know what f/22 means

this is my favorite shirt, i did not realize when i bought it that the guy is holding a bottle and a bong. a cool bonus when i opened it

tapevulture Cult Leader is from my hometown and they rule. Sect is also an amazing XVX band. I saw a different show with Andy Hurley of FOB at a small show. I talked to him after and told him I would not be where I was had I not been a huge FOB fan as a teenager, heard their cover of Start Today, and gotten into Gorilla Biscuits. My life trajectory is radically different from what it would have been without FOB leading me on a path to straight edge and hardcore.

thiccnick i forgot to reply to this. that’s cool you’re from SLC. i’ve heard the scene there has been pretty violent at times in the past. i’ve never been a part of a scene like that so not sure what it would be like

yeah a lot of my love for the band is mediated through the fact that they’re from SLC. they traffic in the usual anti organized religion themes that i tend to find kinda tiresome but they get a pass from me since they’re coming from one of the epicenters for the worst aspects of that stuff in the US

tapevulture No sweat about the reply, I’m just on this forum to chill.

It definitely has a bad rap because of SXE in the 90’s/00’s, but it has chilled out since then. I know people that were involved in it back then, and one of their kids is my barber lol. I got into the scene through ska, and have friends in a variety of groups/cliques, so I think I’m lucky in that aspect. Tooele and Ogden shows can be violent, but I think people from outside of Utah still consider that SLC. I wouldn’t say it’s any more violent now than any other scene, but also hard to say since the only out-of-state show I’ve been to was Sound and Fury for Have Heart.

I also agree with being cold on anti organized religion, but it can be wack in Salt Lake so they get a pass for sure.

been a minute since i posted in here so how about i drop a few of my favorite Heavy Records from this year so far

new record by THE BODY is by far my favorite from them, they really lean in on the power electronics stuff on this one and it’s for the better, still very solid drone metal but way more effective use of the noise side of things. i dig it.

HULDER finally delivers a full length and it absolutely rocks. highly rec for anyone who likes second wave black metal.

PANDISCORDIAN NECROGENESIS is supposedly improvised on the spot live, i’m not sure if i entirely believe it but playing the guitar/drums/doing vocals at the same time is impressive nonetheless. pretty decent LLN worship, i like the new record a lot. check out some live footage for the novelty.

new THE RUINS OF BEVERAST rules. if you aren’t familiar i recommend the entire discography to anyone who likes any sort of black metal.

i still have to give it a few more spins but i’m thinkin i’m real into the new STARGAZER lp. ffo: that 90s tech death stuff

WHITE SUNS are more in the realm of noise rock than anything else i’ve probably posted in here but man the new record is absolutely up my alley. hard emphasis on the NOISE side of things.

Hearing Brandon mention EYEHATEGOD on this last episode made me nostalgic for all the heavy music I used to listen to, and also made me laugh thinking of how it would only make sense to weirdos like us to say that EYEHATEGOD was a more popular well known band to mention. Which wasn’t inaccurate, it’s just funny to think about like that. Hanging around IC makes my perception of what notoriety is off. Like, is Church of Misery even cool by our standards? I love big loud fuzzy blatant Sabbath worship so much.

Made me fondly remember BISON B.C. and how much I like their albums. They’re kind of a stoner metal band? They’re like stoner metal if smoking weed makes you anxious. Really fantastic songwriting chops and kick ass drumming.
