I was just gauging you all’s opinion without context on purpose just for a general idea of what the average would be.
Thanks! :)
here’s some context:
this new boss is a friend of a friend and shares a duplex with my buddy, I’ve already worked for him for 20/hour for that concrete job, so his hourly rates are more than fair, and it’s likely that when the epic and beloved local venice liquor store he bought is finished remodeling, I could have a position there. It’s not some removed boss who will take advantage and break ties: this is the beginning of a long relationship. If he does break bad, I’m prepared.
the offer to stay for the season was made before I made my offer!
I already had talked to my father about it, who is my best bud and whose opinion I trust the most and he said 50 dollars, knowing that the cash I make is going into investments, taking that into account I’m making $610/day. The difference between 61/day and 75/day is small potatoes. I am still working my other jobs.
I am not a professional house sitter, my house sitting rates were 50/day usually.
It’s a private lot fenced in with razor wire, with a lot of room for activities. Not a storefront. it’s very quiet. Just him or his brother come through once every couple days. also there is soil with plants and bees where I can heal the earth and propagate a healthy micro ecosystem. This is the kind of setup that some people pay like $300/mo. rent to park their RVs, guys. One day’s pay, $61, is equal to my monthly cost of living, lol.
new location has baby hood kitties, I am basically Bubbles.

Best of all, there is a water hose. So I’m set for life. LOL
This is the kind of setup I’d been waiting for since I built my van.
ALSO, very important to note: I have documented our contract, for my own protection. I can always just leave.
exodus I am curious how much of a wasteland dtla is now - it was real cool for a long while but I imagine without folks going to the office buildings it’s a real weird zone. I hope that bogus famima is still there.
I can see the high-rises from here, but still a good two or three miles from the part of DTLA you’re describing, that’s called Business District, known for having the suits by day and being a wasteland by night.
In general it’s the same as before covid. In venice I lived across from google for 5 years and saw the ebb and flow of google employees before, during, and now after covid. They’re practically back to the way things were over there too.
I have famima! anecdotes too! there was also one that used to be on the santa monica third street prominade when I was in high school, I never had enough $$ to buy rice balls there but I used to stare at them sometimes and watch my friends buy steam buns! We all miss that one a lot… We miss the old prominade in general, it sucks now because it went full tourist bougie. There once was a regular shopping mall with hot topic, since then they completely multi-million remodeled it, now it’s just boutiques for tourists. IDK if famima still has a presence in LA but there’s always tons of other stuff like DAISO, marukai, mitsuwa, H-MART etc. where you can buy epic treats.
