My wife is bonkers for Christmas. I spent my whole life not really caring about Christmas but now Christmas has come to dominate all of December.

That’s kind of what I liked about living in Moscow for a year (ages ago, when it was only kind of scary and oppressive). All of the stuff we associate with commercial Christmas (Santa, presents, trees, lights) is part of the secular New Year’s celebration over there. Which works for me. You get to have your big, excessive, wild party with presents and gaudy bullshit, and snow wizards giving presents, and it’s completely divorced from the nearby religious holiday (which comes the week after New Year’s there), that’s kind of like Easter - just a smaller time to get together with family or maybe do some religious observance if you’re religous.

Oh man I loved coming home late Christmas night and watching some anime. One time I got the Outlaw Star Boxed set. Another time I watched Gurren Lagann. Years later Kill La Kill, and then Cowboy Bebop on Blu Ray a few years ago. good times.

¹ - actually I have no idea when it is appropriate to extend a specific holiday greeting as far as Hanukkah is concerned, whether you do it on the first day or during or on the last day or whatever. But as the thinker in this case I believe it’s the thought that counts
