As the link indicates, I only really know about this from a StarCraft 2 perspective but it seems like it would have big repercussions generally. Pretty sure WoW is still one of the most popular games in China so i wonder how all that’s working out…
That World Team League mentioned in the article is the only and biggest team league in StarCraft 2, and gets a lot of funding from Netease, the (former) distributor of Blizzard games in China. Losing it would be a damn shame as it’s breathed a lot of life into the scene, both in China and overseas. Kinda reminds me of when Blizzard came after KeSPA (Korean eSports Association) regarding StarCraft Brood War licensing rights and basically killed their professional scene.
Maybe people familiar with other games or Chinese gaming more specifically will have more to add.
