pasquinelli Now that you’re talking about books, I’d say this is a very similar debate to the style versus substance. Games always play within the constraints of its limits, and I think tone, as Toph said, is the one who ends up telling you which is the right one. Sometimes games require you to put in an emergency and you need to do that (I remember FFVIII had different instances of that, and in JRPGs the mission “scape from X” usually has those), but for example Yakuzas can be your point 1. I think it depends, and I believe it may be funny for designers to think which are the instances in which I put that “it’s an emergency and you can’t do anything else” and which lets you goof around.
