Another great episode. As usual Tim is saying stuff I’ve been saying for years and it feels so good, like his rant about “wholesome” games. That’s why I’m here and it’s why I like these fellas. But that’s also why it took me a long time to try A Short Hike, haha. I just feel weird when a 30 year old game I’ve liked for 20 years gets no recognition, then something else that slightly misses the mark for me comes out and takes all the credit, and it’s all anybody is talking about while I’m still waving the flag for the first game, being told it’s somehow worse or doesn’t matter.
This week, after using twitter regularly for the first time since 2009, I’m reminded why I’m glad I can hang here, cause I have now witnessed the twittersphere where all the video game people we know and love intermingle, and it is definitely not mentally healthy! I’m just here for retro game news, dudes, why are y’all just picking on each other over social moors and stuff?! I think I answered my own question.
I say this, not as a criticism, but as an anecdote with love and irony: listening to Tim try to explain to exodus the way to enjoy Elden Rang, while I was playing elden ring, was painful in a hilarious way. He was yelling in my ear about elden ring while I was playing elden ring.
I’m also pretty surprised that, as exodus is a person who needs to be hooked or at least get in the flow in the first hour, that you weren’t! And of course that’s okay. Like Tim said, many of us were primed for it. I was so primed, I was soaked to the bone. I was steeped in From Software Sauce. I think I was so primed, that my marination counter rolled over past 999, past FFF, and went back to 001.
Harvestella sounds like it’s exodus’s Elden Ring this time. Both want to be the all-encompassing everything-game. Makes sense that Harvestella is more approachable in many ways, and one of those ways is there’s not all this media pressure to have to enjoy it. It could have blown up but it didn’t. Reminds me that I’m totally down to give it a shot, when I have enough bandwidth to download it! xP
So on that note, there’s no delicious Digital Foundry video about it– how does Harvestella run on Switch? cause I could go either PC or Switch on this one.
