exodus just heard the bit where you said that Stranger of Paradise was too tough. I am currently playing it on easy and it is a great time. Just rolling through dungeons with your AI pals and having a breezy time. Having tried it on normal, easy is definitely the best way to play.

I also love Atlus RPGs and keep forgetting that Soul Hackers 2 is a game that exists. I’ve been meaning to pick it up eventually at a discount, so I finally sprung for it. It’s $30 most places at the moment.

I played Solar Ash and Sonic Frontiers within a two week span, can’t believe I never made that same connection.

I ordered a disc copy of soul hackers 2 during the podcast and it showed up 2 hours later, which was spooky and weird! I didn’t need it immediately!

yeso My short version is it’s one of the better throwback rpg attempts, to where you might forget it’s a throwback RPG. It does what it attempts quite well - I would argue the battle system is more limiting than it intends, though I’m glad it tried something. To me it’s less remarkable for what it does well but more for what it doesn’t do wrong - it avoids a lot of the pitfalls of the straight-ahead JRPG attempts of the 2020s while also moving the story along quickly enough to continue feeling fresh. I would say that this game will satisfy anyone who wants to play a 16/32 bit JRPG without the frustrations of the old grind. pretty much anyone who wants that experience will have a good time.

When I started seeing that Fry’s locations were shutting down permanently, I decided to make a trip to the Woodland Hills Fry’s (Alice in Wonderland theme). They were clearly about to close that location down soon, there was almost nothing on the shelves there and what was left was mostly random junk. There couldn’t have been more than a few employees in the entire store. I brought my dog with me and we walked around and got to say a proper goodbye. It was like an IRL Shin Megami Tensei dungeon.

Really happy to hear about: Ghost Wire, Sonic Frontiers (Spark 3 is the better Sonic game last year though), Immortality, and Pocky & Rocky Reshrined. They’re all a blast, especially that last one, that was a hoot! Enough of a hoot to play through it again in nearly one sitting with some of the unlockables.

tim’s description of Tunic being a nice lil fairly straightforward zelda-like is wild to me, there’s a whole depth of puzzle and unveiling of many many layers within it – one of my favorite games of 2022 by far, if not one of my favorite games of all time, like, if i were to make a video game somehow, it would basically be this. i was so blown away at how much it felt like it was designed for me specifically and i wish i could erase my memory of playing it so i could start it over completely fresh
