beets I found .cia files for Harold’s Walk and Harold’s Return somewhere online (im sorry mom (and developer too))…
and they are wild, I finished the first one and I’m currently half way through the sequel, and they are actually good in a very weird way, the controls are good and solid, but the level design is all over the place (in a sort of good way), they have a lot of soul in them, but a soul that has been chewed by a chihuahua and then thrown into a sale bin (also in a good way)

I kind of want to write something about these games, maybe I will!

Now that 3DS is truly dying, I think I have a new tolerance for it….
Because I’m halfway through Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury and enjoying it, I’ve downloaded Mario 3D Land to play while I sit and watch my friend play Elden Ring.
For posterity I’m downloading all the etrian odyssey and mystery dungeon games I’ve still yet to play, as well as many other games I may want to play in the future….. I had a hardcopy of Persona Q in the past for some reason, but now I’ll DL it cause in retrospect it could be something I’d wanna play someday.
It was the retronauts episode this week that got me thinking about 3DS stuff again.
Though, not sure why they said “never play Triforce heroes even for a moment”… maybe because of some politically incorrect thing it did? But the soundtrack and graphics look amazing, and I remember when it came out, everyone on tumblr was really into it and the idea you can make link wear girl clothes now.
So as usual I disregard retronauts’ opinion, I really wanna play triforce heroes, too bad I never will, because I have no friends! The majority of my time in TH was in the online lobby, smacking the music ball for hours waiting on just 1 person to play with.

treefroggy I’m not sure what the deal is with them saying that. The game is quite fun, though it’s annoying that it restricts you to either 1p or 3p. I’ve been trying to get people together to play it for years at this point because I found it kinda boring single player. Having to swap between the 3 Links slows it down quite a bit.

treefroggy I finally got round to playing a bit of Triforce Heroes recently at work but we really didn’t enjoy it. I think it just ended up being being needlessly fiddly. Plus there were many moments when either 1 or 2 players are just doing nothing aside from standing on another’s head. I really wanted to love it as I enjoyed Four Swords and the costume stuff looks fun, but it’s all too much of a faff. YMMV.

I am pretty sure GF/GFII was not operated on the R360 which released two years later (at least natively by Sega – maybe there were unofficial conversion kits?). It had its own super deluxe arcade machine that relied on piston-chambers.

And eventually received a mid-range version which converted the deluxe Thunder Blade cabinet.

Ah, you’re right, I was reading an old history piece on the R-360 at the time and had images of an old, pre-R360 bespoke rotating kit in my mind, my bad.

re: 1&2 and 123, I’m quite sure they’re not only identical but both essentially repackaged versions of recalled/surplus stock.

I will share some 3DS appreciation: a CFW 3DS is definitely my favorite travel console! It has a small form factor and charger(vita charger is so stiff and blocky). I have mine loaded up with all the 3DS, DS, GB/C/A, SNES, and Genesis stuff I could ever want to play.

Last time I traveled with it I finished up TWEWY! This time I’m definitely going to beat Chrono Trigger and then who knows! So much possibility. It’s so easy to pick it over the Vita and Switch.

connrrr It is not an hyperbole to say that one my biggest gaming regrets, vicariously, is that Sega did not take advantage of the original Nintendo 3DS sharing 1:1 the same control scheme as the Dreamcast controller (down to the bottom screen which could have mimicked the VMU). We could have had a great Jet Set Radio port with graffitis drawn on the touch screen, a Crazy Taxi with the city map shown on the touch screen, a stereoscopic 3D version of Cosmic Smash etc.

Just gonna gush about my 3ds experience because god I loved this little console.

Animal Crossing New Leaf was one of the games that helped me figure out my gender identity. It is immensely important to me. I connected with friends, celebrated long distance birthdays and new years, and really figured out who I was with that game. It led to me also getting Style Savvy Trendsetters which, while kinda basic, is a totally enjoyable, kinda gay experience.

SMT4 kicked so much ass it’s unreal. The soundtrack is burned into my brain forever.
Monster Hunter 4U was my college friend group’s go-to between class time waster. Every day for a year, we’d get together at our lunch hour to get a hunt done.
I finished EVERY streetpass puzzle. I got EVERY find mii hat. Streetpasses were a huge reason for me to bring my 3ds around, it was great.
I could probably go on, but yeah, the 3ds fuckin owned.

◉◉maru the only difference in controls is that the shoulders are not digital like on the Dreamcast pad, but I don’t know what DC games could have used analogue triggers but racing games.
