MovingCastles it was hard for me to find a computer case that did not look like a toy for little kids. I then had to rip out the blue fans that would not allow me to turn them off and replaced them with lightless ones. who the heck wants BLUE lights shinning at them all the time?!

Personalmatthew when they were talking about an eSports Utility Vehicle I thought they meant a utility vehicle made of “Ys Ports”. I caught on eventually but different versions of Ys seemed more on brand than them discussing competitive gaming for some reason.

Jaffe mentioned Matthew Lesko and he’s one of my two celebrity sightings. He sat in front of me at a movie theatre in Rockville, MD to watch the 2006 film Firewall; he had the full suit and everything.

This is probably a bad idea but I’m watching whatever streaming service has the most old TV shows and commercial interruptions on it and I’m watching it with Gex. It’s Tail Time!

DaveedNoo somebody must love those blue lights, because they’re everywhere! That somebody is not me, however.

That’s the worst part about the Nintendo DSi as well. Can’t play it in the dark because there’s always a little blue light staring you in the face.

Also, I never liked the term “beat the game”. It frames games as something antagonistic to the player. I like to say “I played through it” to vaguely mean “played through the content that developers hoped most players would get through”. Then I use specifics (“did all the sidequests”, etc) to describe anything beyond that.

i will say that many games in the 80s and 90s were often actually quite antagonistic to the player and were something to be conquered, rather than seen as a way to absorb story/enviroments/systems of play. less of a dialog between the game’s creators and its players in seeing something through, more of a challenge issued from the game asking if anyone dare try and beat it at its own game

giogadi I think it was my comment a while back that triggered this one! As a Brit I felt like it was a bit self-deluded to say “I beat the game” as though somehow the game was attempting to beat you - when it fact, games are built to be played though. You didn’t outwit the developers! You followed the path they laid down for you!

…but coming back to this topic, I hadn’t considered classic coin-munching arcade machines. Built to be technically finishable - but to not let you finish, if they can get away with it! Hell yeah you can beat Donkey Kong.
