While I certainly cannot condone the practice of skipping any of the cutscenes, I will take the opportunity to agree that MGS4 is a wonderful, bizarre playground, full of things to see and mess with for really no good reason. Playing around with enemy behavior in the context of each of the first three chapters (different SCENEs if you will) is a pretty good time, if like me you would take any excuse to play the whole game again. There is absolutely no “reason” outside of roleplaying (which is the reason!) to join the militia in chapter 1, or to help them defeat the opposing PMC in chapter 2. But you can!
