captain we talked about this on the show we recorded today (which you’ll get sunday/monday) and this video is so bizarre. But Ash said miyamoto can get away with it because he says SUPER mario. Mario teaches typing is a mario game. Super Mario 64 is a Super Mario game. I don’t like it, but I can see how they could justify that.

But the thing I still can’t get around is WHY MAKE THIS VIDEO AT ALL. why wasn’t this a couple bullet points in a press release. it’s so odd that they’re going so hard on this but still also not really explaining it.

it appears the acting reel that includes a scene of him getting killed with a silenced pistol has been removed from youtube. Nintendo’s lawyers at it again. Cant’t show the mario ambassador getting hit center mass by a silenced pistol

Funny thing: he didn’t actually say that!

Whoever wrote the English subtitles definitely added that bit to preempt any comments about Mario Teaches Typing. Same with the initial announcement’s “Nintendo games…as far back as Super Mario 64.” Very specific wording!
In summary, Miyamoto should also be fired.

In all fairness, you are asking this question on a 70+ messages-long topic entirely dedicated to this announcement, which somehow dominated the (admittedly slow) news week when it broke out. So I would not call the video disproportionate to the public interest from (predominantly North American) gaming enthusiasts surrounding this news. Whether the public interest itself is disproportionate is a different question.
