Nemoide i had some NOS ones as of last year that felt perfect. no weird sticky feeling. I think it may be sunglight and oxygen that breaks them down?

Neko Interesting! I assumed they were all sludge.
It might also just be a fluke based on the conditions in the factory when they were made with some being more prone to rapid deterioration and others less so.

I just found out about the cdi roller controller

exodus the CDI has so much mouse cursor based stuff that I can see it working well, especially vs the regular infrared controller! I love the colours.

I had two older brothers that insisted I use this controller when we played Goldeneye in four player mode. (I still won!)

exodus Necroquote! The SS Programpad is also terrible. I picked one up in Japan and had to dispense with it. Everything about it is bad, including all the button presses and the dpad. Everything. (Note, it wasn’t called that. I’m just stealing the nomenclature because I don’t remember what it was called."

Here’s a photo of some of my old off-brand controllers I took while rummaging through bins a year or two ago:

Other than the turbo touch, they’re not that bad! I remember being SO excited to get that stupid thing back in the day because I was utterly convinced I would finally be able to throw a hadouken with some consistency. Needless to say, that didn’t work out (and I still can’t 😭)

That transparent n64 controller wasn’t too terrible, plus you could even swap out the color of that little yellow badge in the middle iirc.

kory there’s a fun fact about that N64 controller. The analog stick goes further than an OEM controller. I remember using that playing Goldeneye, but since the stick goes further you can aim down the sights and see further beneath or above you.

It’s a weird thing, but I find it interesting.
