yeah realistically you’ll get more if you sell everything separately. selling in bulk is certainly more convenient, but if you’ve got the time, separate is the way to go. then if you wind up with a bunch of stuff left that doesn’t look like it’s gonna sell, you can sell THAT in bulk lots.

As someone going system by system to off load my collection. It is a nightmare. My PS1 collection is all boxed and ready to go, but likely I will just select out about 20 games to sell individually and trade in the rest to my local game shop (where I already work). Ha ha! I don’t know how I ever had the time when I was younger to play the whole flip game.

So far: NES / GEN / SNES / GC and Sat have gone to a game store due to being in rough shape. DC went to Brandon. PSP got traded to a small press games publisher. Private sales have been good to me, but it feels like more people in our circles are getting out than getting in.

@treefroggy yeah, it’s hard to get rid of things you’ve got a real emotional (and to some extent intellectual) attachment to. Also there’s a particular brand of idiocy that maybe not everybody has… I have three turbo duos and I’m like… I could use the money, but also WHAT IF MY MAIN ONE BREAKS or maybe I should keep a JP one and a US one even though my JP one is modded with a region switch. Just stupid stuff like that. There’s no reason for me to keep a backup of a given game but the hoarding part of my brain just wants to keep hold of everything and feels like… diminished by the fact I’ve reduced all my doubles/games I don’t want to about 20 things. It’s weird! Why do I need to have doubles? I guess part of it is like, I’d really like to still have valuable games to trade in case I see good stuff in a game store? but I could also just use the money from selling it and get even more! I dunno, I’ve got game brain disease.

Hopefully emulation and mister stuff has got you feeling okay about divesting yourself of your collection, and it is a good time to do it. but it kind of feels like you lose a slice of your identity or something, as dumb as that sounds. But you’ll still know about/be able to enjoy the games if you don’t physically own them anymore, so hopefully you can make it work!

I have been selling games individually on various market places since 2011. In early 2021 I sold everything that wasn’t selling over the course of the past 10 years in one big lot. That was the end of my “inventory” of stuff.

Now I have my entire personal collection consolidated. I’ve decided to sell it in the same way. I’ll have no issue with the logistics of it now that I’ve decided.

Really, it may seem dramatic, but I’m just very emotional about this.

The one caveat with selling separately on eBay is games under $10 or so are generally not worth selling on there. However Japanese games might be a bit of an exception as I’m not sure if there’s a store in the LA area that would pay even a dollar on those… Maybe game dude?

Oh yes I am well aware. I have been selling on ebay since 2011, and, in 2020, I cut my ties with that storefront because it was just no longer economically feasible. Thankfully, in LA I have never had issue selling everything on the likes of CL and Offerup for cash.

Realistically it’s going to trickle out slowly in console and game bundles.

I don’t think I need advice so much at this point, the game plan is set.

I’m just emotional now. Haha. There’s a lot of psychological growth going on.

As I list stuff for sale, I’ll include the photos and asking price here as well.

I drafted a large reply, sorting out my thoughts. I’ve slept on it and am now undecided… What triggered this was the power steering on my van failing yesterday morning. A Memento Mori that has me rethinking my life choices.

exodus No rush. Honestly its like sell it to you or trade it once again to the owner of a boutique games publishing company. But I am definitely in a similar position to treefroggy in wanting to move on with things. BUT ALSO in a similar mind set to you when it comes to hardware. Games can go. But a lot of that is going right back into tricked out consoles and high end controllers.

i have an analogue super nt (the super famicom model) that i bought when they did restocks earlier this year that i have barely touched and i’m accepting that i don’t think i’m going to put time into it (it’s a great machine and it’s already been jailbroken, though i believe i can revert that). i have the black 8bitdo sn30 controller, wired super famicom controller and a cart only copy of star fox (that is a little dirty fyi - was like that when i bought it from the shop) that i would like to bundle altogether. i’m not looking to make a huge profit on it, but i would be willing to let it all go for around $275 shipped (and it would be shipped priority).

robinhoodie what controllers do you have your eye on? I’ve always been someone to buy the cheapest so I can buy more games but I’m trying to change my ways

Chris_v A lot more wireless stuff. I want to get the 8bitdo wireless controller boards for NES and put them into the Famicom controllers I salvaged off a busted Famicom. Luckily there is a tutorial about that.

I also need to get more Brook adapters to use my various fight sticks on a wide range of consoles. I think they have a SNES model coming sometime soon, which would be very fun to mess about with.

robinhoodie I would do this with my hudon joycard! Also, gotta love when e-waste famicoms have minty fresh metal faceplates on the controllers still. All of mine have seen better days.

also: Yeah I’m not ready to sell my retro gaming suite. I had a near-death experience that had me considering it for a moment, though. Haha. sorry for all that!

Oh yeah that famicon 8bitdo controller looks amazing. I have an 8bitdo pro (v1) and it’s the nicest controller I’ve ever owned lol
