I was told to come post my pico-8 stuff here so here I am!
I discovered pico-8 at the beginning of this year and immediately fell in love. The concept, style and ease of use all drew me in in a big way. I’ve been an artist on a small dev team for a while, and sometimes I’d help the coders do some neat stuff and it was really cool watching our creations come to life. I wanted to chase that feeling so bad and when I found pico-8 I knew it was a way for me to scratch that itch.
I knew nothing about coding before diving in but I put my nose to the grindstone and over the course of a month learned the basics through youtube tutorials and the pico-zines on the lexaloffle website.
The first game I made is based on the Lunar Lander clone featured in one of those pico-zines. I added my own style and flair to it and it’s a simple, yet fun little game. Give it a play in your browser here
Next, I wanted to do something a lot more ambitious and make a shooter game. This really put my mettle as a coder to the test. Xenophobia has 3 levels, upgrades and bosses. Simple, yet complex. I put the whole thing together in about a month and I’m super stoked with how it came out. Check it out here.
After that I took a break for a while to focus on another project but I’ve been coming back to pico-8 and have been trying to update those two games and whip up a couple other projects (my profile pic is from something I’m currently working on).
Thanks for the opportunity to show these off!!
