Video Game Acoustic Covers have come a Long Way since 2005

The Runaway Five (aka The University of Toronto 10 O’Clock Big Band) was a jazz band out of Canada that did video game covers. They used to have a website at therunawayfive.com and a YouTube, but looks like they’re all gone. Here’s a snapshot of their old site from 2019. Really hard to find them because of their name.

So here is something I’d like to see circulated more…
there is a cover of Pollyana (from Mother) from 89/90’s Japanese television that I found on starmen dot net forums way back around 2005.
there have since been a few decent acoustic covers of Pollyana, but none of them are as good as this one still IMHO. It does a lot to liven things up.

I also wanted to share a cover of the same track. This guy’s YouTube channel is him playing a variety of video game music with live instruments, but arranged in such a way that it ends up matching your memory rather than the real thing.

SuperEffective I used to really enjoy that song, but ever since actually playing the game last year I have a visceral aversion to it…soooo mission accomplished I guess!

SuperEffective While IDK if this set counts as acoustic, it is an epic set by one of my favorite video game acoustic cover bands. the sax is definitely acoustic! Also from this same set: their cover of Simple and Clean that always brings tears to my eyes.
