I have some ideas for a video game; if anyone chooses to use them, please put my name in the game and send me a free copy.
All right, here it is:
First, I’d like the game to use the 8 or 16-bit look.
Second, I’d like there to be two versions of the game; the one the reviewers receive, and the one that’s sold to the mass public.
I want to make a really cool gambling simulator. It has that 2-d Chrono Trigger/Dragon Quest look to it. The reviewer version is like this: The game takes place in London, 1800s. There’s a calendar that tells you the day, month, and year it is. You’re a poor kid who wants to make his/her/they’re way from impoverished to millionaire, and you do it by gambling. By day, you make money selling newspapers, while also trying not to get mugged selling newspapers. At night, you gamble on the streets. Play dice, three-card-monte, I don’t know. You live on the streets. As you make more money, you get enough to rent a room at a hotel and stumble into illegal gambling areas. There you start to play various card games. Once you get good, you get invited to different people’s houses and play with their friends. When you do well, other people invite you over to their houses. When you hit $1,000,000 you win.
Ok, so the version that is released to the public has little weird things happening… when you’re invited to a person’s house, let’s say “Robert’s,” and you’re winning, he runs out of money, he throws a map into the kitty. If you win, he tells you to go a specific dock on a specific date. If you go there, you hop on the Hispaniola and go on a voyage. There it’s like an entirely new game opens up. You actually hold a treasure map, and once you hit the island there’s a mutiny. You eventually find treasure, sail back home, tell Robert all about the story… and he writes “Treasure Island.”
While at another house, you’re invited to play with friends of H.G. Wells, and if you win, the host takes you to a certain room and shows you his time machine. Everyone’s scared to go into it, but if you choose to go, you are taken again into a completely different game where you go into the future, fight Morlocks, get back home, tell Wells about the story, and he writes “The Time Machine.”
There’s so much stuff you could do. Walking around at night you find out that there are grisly murders. You help solve the crimes, meet a visiting Edgar Allan Poe, and he writes “Murders in the Rue Morge.” I have all sorts of ideas, from “Frankenstein” to “Around the World in 80 Days.” All the while these full games are unlocked by playing poker at various people’s houses and being at the right place at the right time.
I just like the idea of discovery and “oh $&#” moments that no one really knows about. And none of it is DLC… or if it is, it’s free and whenever there’s an update, you’re never told what the content is.
