A slightly touched up version of my cyberpunk piece was republished on this blog! I’m just happy somebody liked the thing I wrote enough to want to help share it further! I added a small paragraph about what’s happened in Myanmar over the last 6 months, which I’m including below.
[Returning to this article 6 months later for it’s republishing on this blog, I am tempted to make additions to the preceding section that reflect how the situation has changed in that time. At the bare minimum, I find it important to mention that Myanmar has been plunged into a full fledged military coup, has experienced 72 nights straight of 1AM to 9AM internet shutdowns, and is still experiencing a mobile internet shutdown that has lasted 51 days and counting.
On May 30th Michael Flynn, former National Security Advisor for the Trump administration, was asked why what happened in Myanmar couldn’t happen here. His answer was that it should happen here. The “it” was left ambiguous.]
I am working on another long post for this thread where I talk about the crop of New Wave sci-fi authors that preceded cyberpunk, particularly JG Ballard. I do this through a close reading of and comparisons with the Half Life 2 mod/game “G String”, and I’m calling it “JG String”. I kinda feel like I might want to finish reading my collection of Ballard short stories before I post it though, so it might be a while before it lands here.
Also, it seems “the peripheral” is going to be a TV series.
