My mom got me some hibiscus tea (mentioned in the drink check thread) which is just some dried hibiscus flowers. they’re plentiful in florida, and you just throw them in hot water, it’s nice.
Just a little positive one that I was reminded of today. Two weeks ago my dog got hold of a bird - it was flapping around on the ground and he got to it before I could see it in the waning light, but he didn’t shake it or maul it, he just carried it a few feet and dropped it when I asked. I didn’t want to pick it up for fear of hurting it so I kinda nudged it into a dust pan and carried it around like that.
It was really floppy and loose so I was worried it had broken its neck or something… clearly couldn’t fly. But it also could’ve just been very young! I decided to put it in the side yard to recover where the dog couldn’t bug it, but as I put it out there it freaked out, flapped away again, and got its head lodged in the chain link fence! So I put some tissue and stuff around a chopstick and pushed it back from the fence by the chest and that seemed okay. I realized I’d need to house it also since it was really cold weather, so I took a tiny box and cut a hole so it could get out, but which would hopefully act like an igloo (the ground there is mulch so it wouldn’t be on cold concrete). I put some bricks on the flaps of the box to keep it down in the wind. Then I threw some chia seeds in there and put water next to the exit hole.
When I went to check later that night, the bird was sitting in a good/normal position, just chilling in there. This was during the torrential rains though, so I went and put a bag over the box so that it wouldn’t get too wet.
When I checked the next morning, there were a few healthy-ish looking poops and no bird! So I’m thinking it’s fine now? I didn’t take any pictures of the process so text will have to do.
