the rocky connrrr picture show dude I loved the secret bio horror level and after 99%'ing the game, it didn’t feel hard at all, in fact it felt like an awesome exercise for my epic wario skills. going across the entire screen hopping on an enemy felt amazing.
3 is the only one I haven’t 100%'d because it does a lot to nerf wario from the start until you get all the power ups. But it’s also the most technically, superficially metroid style one since the levels are all more nonlinear. But to me wario was always about making a linear style metroid philosophy. But they’re all 4 great games and everyone has their own taste and favorites.
captain lol the GBA one I played to completion in like 2004 was Sacred Stones, which is like Gaiden in that it’s pretty much not connected to the other games. I have a huge nostalgia feel for the graphics and sounds and everything about the presentation of the gba ones. I don’t think I will ever play a modern FE or anything after Sacred Stones. Anyways I just want to see the story so I know what’s going on in the GBA ones, and experience them in order as well. We’ll see what my take on the progression as a whole is after. Definitely forging my own path & opinion after an old roommate keeps telling me “just play shadow dragon, it’s better and the older games have broken RNG” like, bro, I told you a thousand times I think shadow dragon is ugly as shit, I don’t care how balanced the RNG is, there’s no amount of RNG “correctness” that will make shadow dragon look better than SFC version to me, lol.
today I played GBC. I beat SMB1 side of the JP version Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. The game does a whole lot to make it the best cutest version of SMB with a bunch of authentic feeling additions like sound effects, map screen, animations and added challenge modes. Plus file select, QOL improvements, savescumming. I played this version as a kid a lot so the screen size doesn’t bother me much either. Next I’ll tackle the SMB2 side, which did away with impossible jumps and made mario and luigi handle identically. It’s a shame nintendo never ported this version, it’s the quality standard and quintessential version if you ask me, aside for the fact the screen is claustro-as-heck, again that’s such a shame they never ported this one. The added tunes and challenges are suuu good.
