tapevulture gosh darn it, nailed it in one…
Nice work! I yield the floor…
edit: figured I may as well use the opportunity to share a personal anecdote! Clockwork Knight was actually my first real life in person encounter with the 32-bit generation, so it has a pretty special place in my heart. I have a vivid memory of a brief play session during a family vacation to Disney World in Florida. There was a whole exhibition at the time put on by Sega called Innoventions. I hardly remember any of the details of the exhibition proper, though I do recall seeing two bored-looking employees in a relatively sparsely appointed corner of the show floor playing an unassuming little black console on an unassuming little TV…it wasn’t even set up as any sort of station, it was just kinda sitting on a table. As an avid vg magazine reader at the time, I immediately recognized the Saturn and Clockwork Knight. It’s possible I am misremembering, but in my recollection this was before its public release. This might not be the case, as I recall this console was essentially shadow-dropped at launch, but either way I was awestruck! They were kind enough to give me a few minutes of play time, forever enshrining this game and that brief experience in my mind. The Saturn was just so cool and I felt like I had finagled some really exclusive hands-on time with the future.
So yeah, Clockwork Knight is unimpeachable in my book :)
