in Catalunya, a lil autonomous region of Spain, we speak Catalan as well as Spanish. we’ve got our own fairly well funded TV network, TV3. throughout the 90s and 00s, Japanese animation dubbed in Catalan made up the vast majority of their childrens’ programming. at least a couple generations of people were raised on a media diet of 80% anime. they also dubbed the opening and ending songs of every show, and a lot of them are surprisingly good! the vocal performances are powerful and a bit over the top, like they are trying to match that Japanese manic energy. today i realised i watched the Dragon Quest anime way before i knew what it was :P
thought it might be fun-weird for ppl who don’t speak the language. u can basically google any classic anime from that time (or before) plus the words “opening catala” and you’ll get a song. this is prolly my fave:
and then there was an extremely obnoxious dance remix album? yeah they made albums out of these as well
