Following up Casiopea, I will share another well known episode of non-game music inspiring a popular game soundtrack but I have spent a good share of the weekend listening to a pretty awesome prog rock online radio from Buenos Aires - shoutout to The Musical Box - and they played Tarkus, obviously one of Uematsu’s main influences for Dancing Mad.

Along with a few other early 2000’s bands like the Polysics or Pizzicato Five, I’m pretty sure the band Cascade was a big influence on the music for Splatoon. This song especially sounds like a Splatoon song, the intro even has something that sounds like the Inkling language.

Ha ha, weirdly I’d never thought about how tarkus was an influence on uematsu but it clearly is. feels like one of those things everybody but me must’ve known.

And this Cascade song is really taking me back to a specific era here.

I finally saw Candyman a couple weeks ago and I think Phillip Glass’ score for that could easily be in some kind of fixed camera j-horror game

wow, I had no idea philip glass did the score! what a noob. I’m finally gonna watch this movie myself, I always skipped out on it because I thought it might’ve been based in negative stereotypes, but apparently it’s quite complex in its presentation, so I’m gonna go for it.

maybe posting chiptunes is not exactly in the spirit of this thread, but I just really want more people to listen to the MisfitChris album from last year, its really cool and weird, this tracks got some warbly Boards-of-Canada-ishness about it

Yeah something spooky - the skittering drums are almost Doom-esque but without the crunchy chords.

this isn’t quite like the rest of these in tone/timbre/instrumentation but definitely has a proggy fusiony feel and the little story in my head that goes along with it is always RPG-like, wake up -> head to market -> meet your homies -> dorks threaten the world -> set about fighting said dorks with said homies -> level up -> level up some more -> ascendant, celestial conflict -> sidereal victory / peace throughout the land
