Received my second shot of Moderna yesterday. Highlight was probably the bugs bunny band-aid I got out of it. (Oh, and the vax get-out-of-jail-free- card update too I suppose…)

My mistake this morning was trying to put on my deodorant. Left arm is that sore today. Which I think feels worse than the first one? But I was also pretty sore the 2nd 24 hours then as well. Just going to keep hydrated and lay low.

It is still impossible to get access to the vaccine where I live (Melbourne, Australia). The rollout has been a total farce and the federal and state politicians are all blaming each other for how shit it has been.

My state finally gave up on waiting on the feds and announced their own rollout, opened up a phone hotline for 40-49 year olds to register for the pfizer shot… and it crashed within 15 minutes due to overwhelming demand. Five days later and I still cannot get through, I just get a recorded “due to high volume we cannot handle your call right now” and then it hangs up on me.

(also there has been a fresh covid outbreak here and we are under a 2 week lockdown again)

rejj I gave up trying to get through on the phone line and just walked up to one of the mass vax centres, and only had to wait 30 minutes and I was through.

I’ve had round 1 of pfizer, now to see if the booking system is any better in 21 days time or if I just walk up again for my 2nd round

anyone else going back to kinda just doing normal things and having weird guilt about it? I ate inside a restaurant for the first time since March 2020 and I felt a profound sadness instead of joy or relief. Doesn’t help that all essential workers are running around still wearing masks, further just driving home how terrible they’ve had it this entire time.

sabertoothalex yeah my feelings about this are still sort of unsettled but I think I’m close to being fully ok with back to normal (at least local to me) given how accessible the vaccine is. The hospital I work at is just periodically offering walk in vaccines of the PA so any visitors can just walk over and get the shot in 2 seconds for example. There were only 88 new cases reported yesterday in all of Cook Co (pop 5 million). Still carry my mask with with me and wear it when required of course

I was going to try and go out with a friend for brunch today and ended up making a bunch of excuses because even though we’re both good, our state still isn’t technically back to “100% open” so seating is still restricted and no reservations (so I’m not about to just sit outside with a bunch of strangers and wait for a seat like I would have dome no problem before…)

It being Father’s Day made a great excuse as well.

I still wear my mask to the grocery store and what not too. I do think it’s more out of courtesy for the staff that seems like they still have to wear them coupled with the lack of faith in humanity that the people without a mask are actually vax’d up or not… (And if I was them, I’d still think everyone without a mask was unvax’d myself…) : \

“only 88” is … mind-boggling to me.

Oh, how I wish for simpler times. Today, my city has recorded 2,232 new cases. “Only 88” sounds like a dream at this point.
