Yeah, the new waves are extremely concerning. It really compounds that increasing sense of collapse when, at least here in the US, it seems all but certain that they’ll be met with zero governmental action outside of platitudes and light suggestions (which will not be heeded by the vast majority). Aside from the baseline empathy of not wanting to transmit anything to immunocompromised people, I’m also a person whose livelihood would be hugely compromised in the case of long Covid – something that has potentially already affected 23 million Americans, in a country that has no plan outside of continuing to rely on for-profit healthcare. That’s quite a wild combo when it seems that a significant portion of your population may not be able to do that lifelong capitalist hustle required to purchase – or have the chance to go into massive debt for – even a modicum of healthcare
This is all to say that, even as a person who rarely gets lonely, being one of the last people to give a single shit about Covid really feels lonesome these days. Messy, too, in terms of being able to forge relationships with people who are moving with the status quo. At least you all aren’t alone in feeling that way
