SU2MM Thank you! I have to be honest that reading your posts about studying physics in Japan were very inspirational to me, and part of what gave me the confidence to take the first steps towards researching Chinese universities and actually applying.
Physics of course is great, and I can’t help but feel that it is the actual useful and meaningful side of math lol. Though for whatever reason, pure math has been a lot more fun and exciting for me. It felt very freeing when I switched my major from physics to math and suddenly didn’t have to take any physics classes anymore. Though things have gone full circle and I’ve been trying to learn a little more physics so that I can better understand how physicists use the particular area of math I’m most interested in, algebraic geometry.
Anyway, I’ll get to China eventually. The people at the university have been great and I’ve been lucky with all my professors so far in terms of them being very understanding. It will be weird suddenly coming into the classroom for the first time halfway through the semester, especially as one of only a handful of foreigners in the math department, but oh well. Feeling weird is part of what I signed up for I guess.
