Brief hunting diary update:I have played a bit more, still 100% solo. I’ve been working my way through the Village quests slowly, I’m almost at the end of the 4-star ones now. The game just presented me with my first Licence Test, which put me up to HR2.
HR is only used for online now? World was the only other MH game I have played previously, and in that all the interesting gear (anything with slots for decorations, etc) was gated behind making it to High Rank. Is it the same here in Rise?
I briefly swapped over to the Charge Blade for a few hunts, but I think I will need to practice it a whole lot more. The new wirebug move that lets you guard and instantly charge phials seems very powerful, but I kept screwing up the timing. Supposedly you can also combo out of that straight in to either of a shield charge up or a sword charge up, but I don’t know how to do that.
For now, I’ve swapped back to my trusty Hunting Horn doot machine (although my current one does not doot at all, it just has a weird church bell style instrument on the end).
I have been enjoying my time with Rise, but I sure do wish that the game explained itself at least a little bit at times. I get the feeling they expect it to only be played by people that have played all the old MH games, and thus the players all come in with a high level of assumed knowledge. Ah well, for now I’ll keep just wandering around and clobbering things with my Horn.
